Read Ephesians 5:15-20

I am very busy! Working a full time job, being a husband, a dad to 4 children, and leading a youth group fill up my life……in a really good way! With this busy schedule I have to prioritize my time. Sometimes it is so easy to get caught up in all that needs to be done that I don’t give 100% effort when it comes to playing with my kids at night. But! I found a really good solution that helps me out. On our oven we have a clock and you can set the timer to beep after a certain amount of time. I have found that if I tell my children that I am going to set the timer for however many minutes and play with them until it beeps, I will give 100%. The timer helps me understand that I don’t have much time and I had better make the most of every minute. It also helps me understand that there will be an ending time and I won’t be playing for the entire remainder of the evening!

The Bible passage you read above reminds me of this. We need to make the most of our time on this earth and live wisely before we run out of time! It is so easy to get caught up in what is going on around us. We can fill our time with sports, friends, movies, show choir, band, social media etc. and miss out on a close relationship with God. I like how this passage talks about not getting drunk. This is true, but I think we can look beyond alcohol and think about what are some things in life that you over indulge in? We can get drunk on video games, sports, movies, etc. and be so intoxicated/full on them that we are not hungry for God’s Word. I like how verse 18 says instead to be full of the Holy Spirit. When was the last time you prayed for God to fill you with Himself instead of the things around you?
