Emotions—What should I think about?

Read Colossians 3:1-3

How often do our circumstances (what is happing around us) affect the way we feel? ALL THE TIME! Tough situations like struggling with a challenging class in school, problems with friends, a break-up with someone who you really care about, parents getting a divorce etc… can all plague our minds with thoughts of discouragement and sadness. In today’s scripture reading we are encouraged to think about things of heaven, not the things of earth… God wants us to focus on who HE is and not on the ever changing circumstances in our lives. James 1:17 says:  17 Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow. God never changes and we can focus on His unchanging nature. We can focus on the fact that God is good and He is in control of all things. Psalm 100:5 says:For the Lord is good. His unfailing love continues forever, and his faithfulness continues to each generation. He cares about the deep concerns of your heart. Psalm 34:18 says: The Lord is close to brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. In times of trouble let us focus on our unchanging and GOOD God who desires to be close to us and carry our burdens.
